Stories of Survival: Object. Image Memory. is an award-winning exhibition of 56 artworks debuting at Navy Pier as a stunning outdoor experience.

Featuring powerful collaborative artworks by celebrated photographer Jim Lommasson and survivors of the Holocaust and 7 other genocides, including Armenia, Bosnia, Cambodia, Iraq, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Syria, Stories of Survival showcases more than 50 personal artifacts brought to America as families fled persecution and war.

Presented in partnership with Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, Stories of Survival will be on display outdoors in Polk Bros Park, from April 7 through June 30. A special museum-curated program is planned for April 27 and June 8.

Illinois Holocaust Museum & Navy Pier invite you to an insightful evening of discussion and storytelling from descendants and survivors of genocides in Armenia, Bosnia, and Rwanda. Ida Sefer Roache, survivor of the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina and President of Bosnian American Genocide Institute will be in conversation with Mark Akgulian, a third-Generation descendant of Armenian Genocide Survivors, and Immaculee Mukantaganira, a survivor of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda and Founder and President of Global Survivors for Peace, Inc. 

Our speakers will illuminate life in the aftermath of these atrocities by sharing their personal and families’ experiences and end the discussion with key lessons for today and beyond. Kelley Szany, Vice President of Education & Exhibition, Illinois Holocaust Museum will moderate this discussion.
