Please be aware that the content on this webpage was authored more than 6 months ago, so some information may be outdated or no longer accurate. Please visit our event calendar for information on current events.

Robert Sanchez is a Pier Fitness instructor at Navy Pier. We recently asked Robert a few questions about his experience with the Pier, and how the Pier has made a positive impact on him.

Now that the Pier has fully reopened, what does the reopening of Navy Pier mean to you?

I immediately thought of being a kid and all the fun I had walking through the pier and riding the Ferris wheel. Navy Pier reopening to me meant that people had a place to come and create great memories again!

As a Pier Fitness instructor, how has Navy Pier made a positive impact on you?

Being a Pier Fitness instructor has become a summer staple! It is one of the best parts of my week and I have the opportunity to meet so many amazing people while doing what I love to do!

How has Navy Pier provided you with the platform to succeed and achieve your dreams?

Navy Pier understands great foundations and communication is one of the most important to me. Working with everyone has been great each year!

How does that make you feel?

Grateful, honestly! I am happy to work with a likeminded team!

How would you describe Navy Pier to someone who has never been to the Pier before?

Navy Pier is a Chicago classic that continues to grow with the times. It has something for every one, age and mood. If you want to grab some food, drinks, catch a boat ride, enjoy the views, theatre, fitness, it’s all there really.

What is your favorite experience at the Pier?

Tuesdays nights at Polk Brothers park for Sunset Yoga at 7:30 p.m., of course!

As one of Chicago’s iconic destinations and cultural institutions – what does Navy Pier mean to you?

To me, Navy Pier means a good time! I have always enjoyed myself every time I have visited and always find something new to do, eat or drink!

What is the best part of the experience you provide at the Pier?

The best part are the people I get to meet each week. It is always a beautiful thing to see so many new and familiar faces year after year. Through Tuesday’s classes I have been able to build relationships with people I might not have had the opportunity to otherwise.

What is your hope for Navy Pier over the next 10 years?

There are a large amount of offerings at Navy Pier now than there were a decade ago. I look forward to watch the continuous growth. This is truly the only place in the city that has something for every one.

Most people who visit Navy Pier do not realize the Pier operates as a nonprofit and depends on fundraising from donors, what would you say to encourage someone to make a small contribution to Navy Pier?

If you enjoyed your visit, keep this machine running and donate what you can!
