What are the dates of Light Up the Lake?

Light Up the Lake is located in Festival Hall and runs from November 26 to January 2, 2022 (closed on Christmas Day, December 25, 2021).

* The event will close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. It will be closed on Christmas Day.

Is Light Up the Lake open on Christmas day?

Light Up the Lake is not open Christmas Day. However, Light Up the Lake is open Christmas Eve from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

How much are tickets to Light Up the Lake?

Tickets are required for children 3 – 12, under 3 are free.

Are there any COVID Protocols for Light Up the Lake?

Any current COVID protocols, such as face masks & social distancing may be in place in accordance with the current CDC guidelines at the time of your visit.

Can I combine one discount with another?

No. Light Up the Lake discounts cannot be combined.

What type of special offers or promotions are available?

Always save when you purchase Light Up the Lake tickets in advance online! Enjoy the convenience of no wait lines for purchasing online.

Do I need to purchase tickets in advance?

No. Although you may purchase tickets online prior to your arrival, tickets are also available for purchase at Light Up the Lake ticket kiosks located outside of main entrance of event.

I'm trying to purchase tickets online, but I have questions or I'm unable to print my tickets. What should I do?

Bring a screen shot of the message that appeared on your computer and your credit card to the Light Up the Lake. We will honor all online discounts.

Where is the best place to park?

Navy Pier has more than 1,500 indoor parking spaces in our East and West covered parking garages. The East Garage is closest to Light Up the Lake. If available, we suggest parking in the East Garage on Navy Pier. Learn more about parking options here.

Are there strollers and wheelchairs available?

Strollers are not available for rent at Navy Pier. Wheelchairs are available on a limited, first-come, first-served basis in two locations: at coat check near the Light Up the Lake main entrance and at the main Guest Services desk located in the Fifth Third Bank Family Pavilion at the west end (front) of the Pier. A valid state ID, military ID or passport must be left in exchange for the wheelchair.

Is Light Up the Lake wheelchair accessible?

Yes, Light Up the Lake is wheelchair accessible.

Is there stroller parking inside Light Up the Lake?

Due to the amount of activity space, there is no designated location for strollers.

Can I bring my pet?

No, pets are allowed at Light Up the Lake.  This restriction does not apply to guests traveling with service animals.

Are there restrooms?

Yes, there will be restrooms located throughout the event.

What are the best times to visit Light Up the Lake?

Anytime, during operating hours is a good time to visit Light Up the Lake. However, to avoid crowds, we recommend visiting on weekdays and on weekend mornings.

Is Santa at Light Up the Lake?

Santa will be located inside Light Up the Lake, in Santa’s Merry Main Street, from Dec. 1 – Dec. 24. Learn more on scheduled daily hours and other photo ops, here.

Can I bring my own food and beverage?

No outside food or beverage is allowed inside Light Up the Lake.  Light Up the Lake offers several festive food & beverage options throughout the event space.

I would like to book Light Up the Lake for a private party.

There are many options available for private parties during Light Up the Lake for 50-5,000 people. Please contact the Sales Department at 312-595-5300 or holidayparties@navypier.org for packages and pricing.

Can I book a birthday party at Light Up the Lake?

Yes! Light Up the Lake is a great place to host a birthday party. There are many options available for birthday parties at Light Up the Lake. Please contact the Sales Department at 312-595-5300 or holidayparties@navypier.org for packages and pricing.

Is there a coat check and/or bag check at Light Up the Lake?

Yes, coat check is located near the main entrance to Light Up the Lake for a cost of $5 per coat. Sorry, coat check cannot accept any valuables such as purses, cameras, book bags, etc. Bag check is not available. However, lockers are available near the ice skating rink for a fee. Credit/debit cards only.

Please note that all bags are subject to inspection.

Can I ice skate with my purse/bag/camera case/etc.?

No. For your safety, you may not skate with any personal item. For a fee, a limited number of lockers are available near the ice skating rink to store these personal items while you skate.

Do you have lockers?

Yes; a limited number of lockers will be located near the ice skating rink. Lockers can be rented with a bankcard.

How late will Light Up the Lake be open on New Year's Eve?

Light Up the Lake is a great place to celebrate the new year! Light Up the Lake is open on December 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Navy Pier’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks are at Midnight.

Is Light Up the Lake open on New Year's Day?

Yes, Light Up the Lake is open January 1, 2022 from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Other than Light Up the Lake, what else is going on at Navy Pier?

Navy Pier is home to the Chicago Children’s Museum, Chicago Shakespeare Theater,  and Amazing Chicago Funhouse Maze, as well as a variety of shops and restaurants. Plus, there often cruises and tours to enjoy, to visit and special events to entertain guests of all ages. You never know what you'll find to do at Navy Pier!

Is there someone to watch my child's shoes or coat while they are participating in the activities?

No, parents and/or chaperones are responsible for all personal belongings. Navy Pier staff is only responsible for the operations of the rides and attractions within Light Up the Lake. Navy Pier does not reimburse for personal items that were not left in our possession. i.e., ice skate rental.
