Join us for Sequence Chicago: Housegiving, a free house music celebration and donation drive for the homeless, featuring special DJ performances from local artists, including DJ Terry Hunter (Chosen Few), Paul Johnson, DJ Heather, and Ron Trent!

Donation Drive: What to Bring

Guests are encouraged to bring items to donate, such as coats, hats, gloves, scarfs, hand and foot warmers, socks, underwear, personal hygiene items, sleeping bags, dental kits, towels, and blankets. All items collected will be given to the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless and distributed at various locations throughout the city by Big Bus Chicago.

Let’s celebrate our city’s rich house music tradition in an iconic Chicago space while giving back to those in need!

Curtis Alan Jones (born April 26, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois) is an American electronica and house music singer, songwriter and producer. His style of house music has been compared and inspired by the likes of Lil Louis, Frankie Knuckles, Jamie Principle, Giorgio Moroder and Kraftwerk. Jones grew up in a tradition of music. His father was an occasional DJ and eventually became a budding musician. Curtis’ passion for this genre of music came out of his innate love and understanding of Chicago’s deep-rooted house music scene that had grown throughout the mid-1980’s. Learn more

Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, the birthplace of house music, Paul Johnson, started making waves in the music community at the early age of thirteen. In the summer of 1984, Paul Johnson taught himself how to spin after watching his cousin Marc spin and scratch in his bedroom. As a self taught artist, Paul’s pulsating energy and passion are apparent in all his work. In high school while his peers were holding down after school jobs, Paul was a popular radio DJ. Raw talent, dedication and a deep love for house music have made Paul Johnson one of the most sought after DJ’s in the world. Learn more

With his roots intertwined in house music for the past 25 years, Terry Hunter has traveled the globe sharing his passion for soulful house music while continuing to produce dance-floor packing hits for his Ts Box record label. Pleased with the success he has garnered in the house music community, but still looking to fulfill his appetite with new genres of music Terrys latest adventure in his musical journey showcases his production talent in the hip hop arena. DJ Heather has become one of the Windy City’s main Dj exports, widely regarded as one of the premier selectors in the nation. She was named one of Chicago’s Top Forty-Five Artists alongside Kanye West, Billy Corgan and Green Velvet. In 2016, Dirty Sole (Classic, Robsoul) kicked off the new Apollo label in with their single “Driving”, featuring Chicago comrade & label partner, DJ Heather (20:20 Vision, OM, Seasons) on vocals. “At the end of the day to make a room full of people happy is difficult to do. You become part mind reader, guru, sensei, educator, entertainer and babysitter all at once. All the experiences I have had, made who I am today. As a person and DJ, I love what I do.” Learn more

Considered to be one of the architects of the Chicago music scene, Ron studied and collected various types of music as a young boy, taking cues from his father who ran a record pool in the late 70’s. Later, becoming a respected DJ in his early teens in the mid 80’s. Ron began to work on his own productions, which lead to his first release, the highly recognized classic “Altered States” in 1990, giving him international acclaim. Through his 13 year old Prescription Records, Ron has notched up an extensive back catalogue of his own productions and introduced several key players. Prescription Records is widely regarded as one of the most influential Deep House imprints of the period. Learn more

Lamajamal, a palindrome for jamal, the Arabic word for beauty, is an ensemble that performs classical, folk, and sacred music traditions from around the world. With each member trained in various musical styles and instruments, the group has an extensive repertoire from the Middle East, North Africa, Balkans, Turkey, Greece, and Kashmir. For nearly fifteen years, Lamajamal has established itself as a vanguard in the world music market performing at international festivals, renowned venues, interfaith events, as well as houses of worship for Jewish, Christian, and Muslim services. Hunter Diamond Performs a Tribute to Vince Guaraldi

Hunter Diamond is a saxophonist and creative musician living and performing in Chicago, IL. Through his compositions and improvisations, he maintains a consistent presence in the local creative music community.

In 2017, Hunter was selected as a from a city-wide pool of applicants for the Luminarts Foundation’s jazz improvisation competition. After performing for a panel of judges including the late Willie Pickens, Hunter was chosen as one of five recipients of the Luminarts Jazz Fellowship. With this initial award and continued grant support, the Luminarts Foundation made possible many of Hunter’s artistic goals, including a west-coast tour with Black Diamond in the spring of 2017. Navy Pier’s A Blues Christmas is a free special concert presented in collaboration with Alligator Records, and the final program of the Sequence Ch!cago music series, supported by the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation. Join us in the Aon Grand Ballroom on Wednesday, December 19 as Toronzo Cannon and guests Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials, Lynne Jordan and Matthew Skoller perform classics from Alligator Records’ Christmas collection, along with other seasonal favorites.
