Join us at in the Crystal Gardens at Navy Pier for a free concert featuring the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, part of Water Colors presented by CIBC, a live jazz music series co-curated with the Jazz Institute of Chicago.
The Chicago Jazz Orchestra will present “Summer Vibes” featuring vibraphonist Thaddeus Tukes. Revisit the famed Lionel Hampton and Terry Gibbs vibraphone classics and a great survey of classic Big Band tunes for an unforgettable evening of classic Jazz and a chance to celebrate the start of the Chicago Jazz Orchestra’s 40th anniversary.
The Chicago Jazz Orchestra (CJO)–a 17-piece premiere jazz ensemble that has garnered both national and international recognition–is Chicago’s oldest professional jazz orchestra in continuous operation and one of the oldest jazz repertory orchestras in the country. Conductor and Artistic Director Jeff Lindberg is one of the foremost transcribers in jazz. As a result, the Orchestra’s repertoire draws upon his vast library, which includes the works of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Benny Carter, Oliver Nelson, Ray Charles, and many others. The CJO also performs compositions and arrangements by members of the CJO, including Associate Artistic Director Charles Harrison.
Water Colors presented by CIBC highlights some of the top local jazz talent today, featuring young aspiring jazz artists to established performers, the series showcases a variety of jazz musical styles.
