Free and open to the public! For the third year, Navy Pier welcomes this annual Latin Jazz musical celebration. The festival includes a tribute to Jerry Gonzales by Victor Garcia and the Chicago Latin Jazz Collaborative. Musicians include Jane Bunnett, Mary Paz (percussions and vocals), Danae Olano (piano and vocals), Yissy Garcia (drums), Tailin Marrero (bass and vocals) and Joanna Majoko (percussion and vocals).
Jane Bunnett and Maqueque highlight this year’s festival. A long-time jazz musician on the scene, Canadian Jane Bunnett began digging deep into the music of Cuba during a trip there in 1982. She has been credited with introducing a lot of great Cuban musicians to North American audiences over the past couple of decades. Her latest project, Maqueque is an assembly of all-star Cuban musicians, a sextet which includes herself and five extraordinary young women.
A live jazz music series presented in partnership with the Jazz Institute of Chicago, plus other special guest performers, in Polk Bros Park Performance Lawns Lake Stage. Series celebrates the 100 years of jazz in Chicago, with programs paying tribute the range of eras and movements of Chicago jazz.
