Join us in the Miller Lite Beer Garden for a free, all-ages show with blues band, Vino Louden, and special guests, Brother John, part of Navy Pier’s free music and dance series, Live on the Lake!
7pm – 8pm & 8:30pm – 9:30pm
5:15pm – 6:15pm
Vino Louden is the quintessential blues guitarist, best known for his work as a bandleader for Koko Taylor’s Blues Machine. Vino is a widely charismatic performer and a gifted guitarist. This Hayti, Missouri native, settled in Chicago and went on to be well-known for his accomplishments as a blues artist and leader of Koko Taylor’s Band. Vino has given performances in blues festivals all over this country and in Europe. He most recently headlined African Festival of the Arts – Chicago, IL, Salvabluesjazz – Mexico (2013-2016), Goodman Theater (solo performance) – Paris, France (2011). Additionally, he has led his own band, Vino Louden Band, for many years. Vino has produced multiple recordings including his own CD (Vino Louden Live), led a blues workshop for kids, appeared on PBS series The Blues produced by Martin Scorsese, appeared on Windy City Live and has worked with celebrities such as Jim Belushi’s band, the original Blues Brothers, Dan Ackroyd, Buddy Guy, Lonnie Brooks, and Keb Mo. He can also present a fun, solid rockin’ R&B that will make you wanna get out of your seat. That’s the genius of Vino Louden: he makes you feel the music as intensely, pleasurably, as intimately as he does himself.
Brother John has been a resident musician at Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago for 25 years. He has played with Eric Clapton, Steve Miller, the Black Crowes, and acquired ringing endorsements from many other musicians of renown. For example: Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant had seen John play with Otis Rush at the Jazz Café in London. When Plant and Kattke met in person at the United Center in Chicago, Plant told Kattke: “You play a mean guitar!” George Benson came to the jam session that Kattke hosts at Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago. After hearing the opening set that John played with his band, Benson told him: “You’re fearless! I thought I was fearless! You’re fearless!”
This free, all ages concert is presented as part of Live on the Lake!, Navy Pier’s free summer music series in the Miller Lite Beer Garden.
