“I’m in love, (ooooh) I’m a believer, I couldn’t leave her if I tried … ”
Name that movie tune!
Need a hint? Big, green, swamp-living, funky-eared … we’re talking about Shrek, of course! And if you hadn’t heard, he’s coming to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater this July!
That’s right! Everybody’s favorite grouchy ogre is coming to life in the very heartwarming presentation of Shrek The Musical, a show that’s perfect for the entire family! And we guarantee that this laugh-out-loud, sing-a-long musical comedy will put a smile on your face that might just last for days on end!
With the catchy music of Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, and a storyline from that DreamWorks movie most of us have seen and loved, Shrek the Musical tells the story of an ogre named Shrek who sets out to find Lord Farquaad, an evil king that has polluted the ogre’s peaceful swamp with a swarm of mythical creatures.
Accompanied by a very obnoxious and hysterical donkey, Shrek begins a journey to reclaim his home and return it to the peace and silence he’s accustomed to only to have his life turned upside down! In what turns out to be a fun-filled adventure, Shrek and Donkey compete in tournaments, battle dragons, and rescue a princess, all to finally discover that sometimes change is exactly what we need.
Shrek the Musical opens on July 13 and runs through September 1! This 75-minute family production is a great way to spend a summer day at Navy Pier and teach your kids a little lesson about friendship. Plus, the entire family will have the chance to meet the stars—Shrek, Donkey and the rest of the cast— after each show in the theater lobby!
