Kid-Friendly Spots at Navy Pier

School is back in session, so now more than ever kids should be having fun on the weekends and during other free time. Check out our list of recommended places for children to visit at Navy Pier and plan your next trip to the “People’s Pier” soon to keep your family happy, entertained and active all year long!

Chicago Children’s Museum

No kid-friendly visit to Navy Pier is complete without a visit to Chicago Children’s Museum. Where play and learning connect, the museum provides valuable, high quality play and learning experiences for children in the Chicagoland area and beyond. With 3 floors of play – all included in the cost of admission – temporary exhibits and permanent favorites are available. Current exhibits include the Sound Playground, Art Studio and Kids Town.

Polk Bros Park

Polk Bros Fountain and Plaza at the entry point of Navy Pier will greet children with a dramatic, 12,500 square foot signature fountain (during warm weather) with more than 150 programmable jets that mimic the natural movements of waves, schools of fish and flocks of birds. While at the park, don’t miss the vibrant “Meet Me at the ‘P’” art installation, which kids will love to pose with!

Centennial Wheel

Navy Pier’s Centennial Wheel is an iconic part of the Chicago skyline and a treasured piece of Chicago cultural history. Soaring to heights of nearly 200 feet, the Wheel offers visitors unparalleled, 360-degree views of Chicago and Lake Michigan. Kids will have a blast taking in the spectacular views of the skyline and water, and with the climate-controlled, enclosed year-round gondolas, will be able to visit this kid-friendly spot at the Pier all year long. One more perk: children under the age of 3 ride free!

Restaurants & Dining

For sit down kid-friendly options at Navy Pier, try the tasty cheeseburgers at Billy Goat Tavern or a classic slice of deep dish pizza from Giordano’s. Tiny Tavern has a great section for kids aptly named “Tiny Mates,” featuring hot dogs, chicken tenders and ice cream sundaes for children under 10. Counter service restaurants such as Potbelly, Ozzie Pops & Pretzels and Ben & Jerry’s offer quick-stop treats and bites for children, too. Visit Navy Pier’s dining page for a full list of options to see what your kid will love best!

AMC Navy Pier IMAX Theatre

One of the best kids activities at the Pier is to kick back, relax and watch a movie. AMC Navy Pier IMAX offers an unforgettable experience that is truly immersive. Don’t forget to check out their website before your stop to the Pier to see what movies are currently playing.

Amazing Chicago’s Funhouse Maze

Another spot kids will love at the Pier is Amazing Chicago’s Funhouse Maze, Chicago’s only self-paced, full sensory maze experience, where guests will navigate their way through 4,000 square feet of tunnels, mazes and fun. The Maze has entertained more than 2 million guests from around the world, so we are sure your kid will love it!

Looking Ahead: Fall Seasonal Programming

Navy Pier is gearing up for the cooler weather months and prepping for exciting kid-friendly activities and attractions! Kids will love checking out Pier Pumpkin Lights, Chicago’s newest, free pumpkin pop-up experience at the Pier from October 1 – November 2. Trick or treating will be available for families in October, and please visit Navy Pier’s events calendar for an on-going list of events and programs.
