Fall into Fun with these Family Activities

Fall is officially here! With changing leaves, cooling temperatures and school back in session, your family might be looking for something fun to do, both indoor and outdoor. Here are some great activities and happenings for your whole family to enjoy at Navy Pier this season.

Check out Pier Pumpkin Lights

Now through November 2, walk through a fall pumpkin wonderland at Chicago’s newest, free pumpkin pop-up experience. Families will have a blast exploring a variety of pumpkin pop-up installations stationed throughout the Pier. From jack-o’-lantern towers to light displays, this inaugural fall program is perfect for families and children of all ages to enjoy the fall and take a great photo or two!

Celebrate Halloween All Month Long

Halloween, candy and costumes are synonymous with family fun and Navy Pier is full of flair this October. Free trick-or-treating will be offered on October 26, 27 and 31 at participating Pier establishments, so grab your best costume and head over! Also, don’t miss Amazing Chicago’s Funhouse Maze, which is turning into a Haunted Maze during select dates this month for a spooky fun time.

Grab a Bite to Eat (And a Beverage for Parents!)

Through October 31, families can enjoy Halloween and fall-themed food and drink specials at participating onsite establishments, including Billy Goat Tavern, Big Bowl, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Giordano’s, Harry Caray’s Tavern, Margaritaville Chicago, Riva Crabhouse, Snow Dragon Shavery and Tiny Tavern. Kids will love feasting on the Apple Crumb Cheesecake (Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.) or the Jumbo Soft Pretzel (Harry Caray’s), and parents will not want to miss a variety of seasonal cocktails (think “The Grave Digger” and “Harvest Sangria”) at participating partners. Check out the website here for a full list of specials.

Take a Centennial Wheel Ride

No trip to Navy Pier is complete without a ride on the iconic Centennial Wheel and a fall Wheel ride is the best way to experience all of the beautiful, changing fall foliage throughout the city. And don’t worry – with enclosed and climate-controlled gondolas, the ride is sure to be comfortable for the whole family whether it’s a mild or chilly fall day.

Visit Chicago Children’s Museum

Chicago Children’s Museum at Navy Pier is a must-do for families visiting. New this fall is “The Pigeon Comes to Chicago!: A Mo Willems Exhibit,” where visitors will join beloved Mo Willems characters Knuffle Bunny, Elephant and Piggie, as well as The Pigeon himself, as their stories come to life in this hands-on exhibit. From now through January 12, 2020, little ones and their grown-ups will have a blast at this exhibit. Chicago Children’s Museum will also be unveiling their brand-new “Cloud Buster”  climbing exhibit this season, which opens to the public on November 1. Check out this sneak-peek article for more information and get ready to climb.

Catch a Play or Movie

Take a break from raking leaves and doing homework and watch a play or movie at Chicago Shakespeare Theater or AMC Navy Pier IMAX. CST fall plays include The King’s Speech, A Man of Good Hope, Andares and Romeo and Juliet and check out AMC’s website for a full list of showings.

Listen to Live Music and Shop with Local Artisans at Sequence Ch!cago

Navy Pier offers free, year-round arts and cultural programming, so families will have a treat if they happen to visit during Sequence Ch!cago this fall. Now through December 20 (over select dates), the event is a free, eclectic music and market series celebrating local artists, musicians and cultural organizations to showcase their works. Arts lovers will have a blast at Sequence Ch!cago, so check out the website for the full schedule and fall artists and vendors.
