Explore the Faraway Cultures at Neighborhoods of the World

9B6EF892183C86F4A58069329DE9686BIt’s no surprise that Navy Pier offers seasonal festivals and cultural events year round, but did you know you could celebrate numerous diverse ethnic communities without the hassle and expense of traveling across the globe? What if someone told you this celebration isn’t just one day, but that it’s actually eight weeks long?  We know how we’d reply—“This is too good to be true!”

We are more than delighted to tell you this is all possible at the fourth annual Neighborhoods of the World presented by ComEd in Navy Pier’s Crystal Gardens, free and open to the public from noon until 3 p.m.  Attend and you can expect to gain a greater appreciation for the rich diversity our very own Chicago neighborhoods have to offer, as well as look forward to hearing authentic live music and seeing incredible dance performances! If you love folk art, we’re excited to say we’ll have that too! Check out the dates for each neighborhood celebration online.

Some of the major event highlights will include a Lithuanian celebration honoring Lithuania’s independence through dance, song, cuisine, and traditional gifts. An African celebration will also take place that aims at highlighting Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, which is rich in urban African-American history. The Chicago neighborhoods of Pilsen and Little Village will also be represented at Navy Pier in celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. These are just a few of the amazing displays and ethnic festivities that will be honored during this event.

We cannot wait for the amazing festivities to begin on February 16 and then continue every Sunday from March 2 to April 13! We hope you mark your calendar for this must-attend event. All ages are welcome, so be sure to bring your family and friends. This is a cultural celebration of Chicago neighborhoods you will want to be a part of!
