Calling All Sailors! Strictly Sail is Coming to Navy Pier

Although Chicago might be cold and blustery right now, there is much to look forward to in the coming weeks! The Progressive Insurance Strictly Sail Chicago Boat Show kicks off at Navy Pier on January 23, and this four-day-long event will preview the summer fun to come on Chicago’s very own Lake Michigan! Attendees will have a chance to check out the latest and greatest gadgets and boat designs in the world of sailing—a perfect distraction from the winter’s cold.  Not to mention, attendees will have the chance to win prizes, listen to live music, play games, and more.

If you’ve always wanted to try sailing, now is your chance to do so. This event offers newcomers the opportunity to get started with sailing. Bring a friend or a group and make it a day to finally learn everything you ever wanted to know about sailing. More than 250 companies from around the world will have their products set up for easy, fun viewing. Be sure to bring your questions, too! Representatives from the companies will be around to attend to all your nautical needs.

Don’t worry; if you are already a seasoned sailor, there will be plenty of entertainment for you as well. This event will allow you to improve your skills and, surely, show off a little of your sailing knowledge. Hourly presentations will be led throughout the day by Strictly Sail seminar speakers who come from renowned sailing backgrounds. Activities will be taking place all throughout the day including a remote control sailing pond. This special indoor pond determines the fastest “indoor” sailor and gives them bragging rights in Chicago!

The Strictly Sail Chicago Boat Show welcomes guests of all ages. In fact, kids 15 and younger can enjoy free admission when accompanied by a paying adult. Doors are open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday.

The 34th America’s Cup will have a presentation on Friday, January 24, and Saturday, January 25, with special guest Gary Jobson, President of the National Sailing Hall of Fame, included in the price of regular admission.
