CHICAGO – Navy Pier, Chicago’s iconic lakefront destination, is ringing in the summer season with three exciting programs highlighting local music, entertainment and the vibrant cultural landscape of Chicago. As part of the larger seasonal lineup of free arts and cultural programming, the return of the Live on the Lake! concert series, Wave Wall Wax live DJ series and Aon Summer Fireworks officially mark the beginning of the summer season at the Pier.
Live on the Lake!
The popular live concert series hosted at the Miller Lite Beer Garden begins on Friday, May 24, and continues every Saturday and Sunday, as well as other select dates, through Monday, September 2. With an exciting roster of local musicians, cover bands and emerging artists and a variety of food and beverage options at the beautiful lakeside venue, guests will enjoy rotating music genres on Saturdays beginning at 2 p.m. In the evenings, music lovers will have prime viewing of the Aon Summer Fireworks at 10:15 p.m., followed by another set of live music until 11:30 p.m. On Sundays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Pier will host “International Pier Sounds,” featuring DJ Papa G, rotating local and touring world music groups and Chicago reggae bands, such as Gizzae, Hurricane, Indika, and Kofi and the New Roots. Wave Wall Wax
Returning for its second year, Wave Wall Wax is the Pier’s live DJ series held at the Wave Wall Performance Platform and offered every Saturday from May 25 through August 31. This live music program brings the city’s incredible DJ culture to the lakefront from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. each week. Enjoy house, hip-hop, Latin, soul, funk and global music, while taking in unparalleled views of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan. This year’s series includes top local talent, such as Ron Carroll, DJ Gemini Jones and DJ All The Way Kay, and spotlights a predominantly female DJ roster. Click here to view the full lineup.
Aon Summer Fireworks
Rounding out the three-part summer kick-off events is Navy Pier’s signature Aon Summer Fireworks, which will return to the Chicago night sky every Wednesday and Saturday from Saturday, May 25 through Saturday, August 31. A local favorite, the Pier’s iconic fireworks series is a bi-weekly 10-minute spectacle along the lakefront, perfectly synchronized to fun and festive music playlists each night. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, catch the vibrant display every Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. and every Saturday at 10:15 p.m. from the South Dock, aboard an evening cruise or on the iconic Centennial Wheel in Pier Park.
