Independence Day Weekend Guest Advisory

Navy Pier is proud to display our Independence Day Fireworks Celebration presented by Miller Lite on Tuesday, July 4th at 9:30 p.m.

With large crowds expected on July 4th, it is anticipated that at some time during the day, to ensure the safety and comfort of all guests, Navy Pier will reach capacity and the gates will close. Plan your visit accordingly, including arriving early. And remember, in addition to July 4th, there are many other opportunities to see the Aon Summer Fireworks every Wednesday and Saturday night now through Labor Day.  For the most up-to-the-minute information, especially throughout the day on July 4th, follow Navy Pier on Twitter at @NavyPier.

Special Independence Day Weekend Operating Hours

Please note that Navy Pier will operate on a special schedule on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. July 4th Independence Day Fireworks Celebration presented by Miller Lite will begin at 9:30 p.m.
Guests With Event Tickets/Official Reservations

In the case of a closure due to crowd capacity, only visitors with special event tickets or official reservations will be allowed entry to Navy Pier grounds. Ticketed or reserved attractions and restaurants include Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Crystal Gardens, Freedom Fest 2017, AMC® Navy Pier IMAX® Theatre, Mystic Blue, Odyssey, Riva Crab House, Seadog, Shoreline Sightseeing, Spirit of Chicago, Elite, and Tall Ship Windy. Guests can purchase a ticket or make a reservation by visiting their websites. (Subject to availability.)

Visitors with tickets or official reservations are strongly encouraged to arrive several hours in advance of the event start time and allow extra travel time to Navy Pier.

In the case of a closure due to crowd capacity, guests with advance tickets or official reservations will be directed to a tent located in north Polk Bros Park where they must check in and receive further instructions.

Parking

Navy Pier Parking Garages

Parking onsite at Navy Pier in the East and West parking garages (located at 600 E. Grand Ave.) can accommodate up to 1,600 vehicles. These garages will fill quickly; plan accordingly and familiarize yourself with the alternate parking information below.

To ensure the quickest exit from Navy Pier garages, it is highly recommended that guests pay for parking at the Automated Pay Stations located throughout the Pier immediately after parking and prior to walking out onto Navy Pier. Follow @NavyPier on Twitter for alerts on when garages are full.

Alternate Special Rate Parking Garages

Navy Pier has partnered with three off-site parking garages that will offer discounted parking for $15 when validated at Navy Pier.* Grand Plaza Park (540 N. State), Ogden Plaza Self Park (300 E. North Water Street) and Millennium Park Garage (5 S. Columbus Dr.) are within walking distance to Navy Pier and are serviced by the Navy Pier Trolley seasonally.

Grand Plaza Park (540 N. State) – enter from Grand or Ohio Streets

  • Getting to Navy Pier from Grand Plaza Park: Board the Navy Pier Trolley (seasonally) from the west side of State Street between Grand and Illinois or on Illinois just east of State.
  • Validating your Parking at Grand Plaza Park: Do not pay in advance for parking. Present your parking ticket at the Navy Pier Guest Services desk for validation to receive the $15 discounted parking rate.*

Ogden Plaza Self Park (300 E. North Water Street) – from Illinois Street turn right on New Street or McClurg and turn right on E. North Water

  • Getting to Navy Pier from Ogden Plaza Self Park: Board the Navy Pier Trolley (seasonally) on Illinois Street at McClurg or walk four blocks east on Illinois to Navy Pier.
  • Validating your Parking at Ogden Plaza Self Park: Do not pay in advance for parking. Present your parking ticket at the Navy Pier Guest Services desk for validation to receive the $15 discounted parking rate.*

Millennium Park Garage (5 S. Columbus Dr.) – enter from Columbus Drive, north of Monroe St. or south of Randolph St., or lower Randolph St.

  • Getting to Navy Pier from Millennium Park Garage: Board the Navy Pier Trolley (seasonally) from the north side of Monroe Street between Michigan Ave. and Columbus Dr.
  • Validating your Parking at Millennium Park Garage: Do not pay in advance for parking. Present your parking ticket at the Navy Pier Guest Services desk for validation to receive the $15 discounted parking rate.*

*Subject to availability. Rates subject to change. The $15 alternate special parking offer is valid year-round at the Grand Plaza Park, Ogden Plaza Self Park and Millennium Park garages. Must obtain validation in order to receive the special rate. Navy Pier Guest Services validates for cars parked at Grand Plaza Park, Ogden Plaza Self Park and Millennium Park garages ONLY. Validation rate provides 12 hours of parking in the Grand Plaza Park, Ogden Plaza Self Park and Millennium Park garages.The alternate parking special rate cannot be applied to Navy Pier East or West Garages (600 E. Grand Ave).

Public Transportation and Hired Cars

CTA Buses

CTA bus staging at Navy Pier will be altered for July 4th. Buses that serve routes to the west and north of Navy Pier will pick up passengers at the permanent CTA terminal at the northwest corner in front of Navy Pier. Buses that serve routes to the south of Navy Pier will pick up passengers along the semi-circular roadway in the south end of Polk Bros Park. TAXIS AND HIRED CARS

Due to expected large crowds, locations for taxi services will be moved from the regular stand location outside and to the south of the Navy Pier main entrance. The taxi and hired car pick-up location on July 4th will be on Grand Avenue, between Streeter and Lake Shore Drive in the special traffic lanes inside the west end of Polk Bros Park. Look for signs that will direct you where to meet a taxi or hired car, and follow @NavyPier on Twitter for any additional alerts and information when garages are full.

RIDE SHARE (UBER/LYFT)

To provide the best and safest possible experience for our guests, ride share services such as Uber and Lyft will disable all on-Pier pick-up and drop-off locations all day on both July 1 and July 4. Guests arriving or departing via ride share should request drop-off and/or pick-up at a location west of the Lake Shore Drive overpass. Normal on-Pier pick-up and drop-off will resume at 6:00 AM on Sunday, July 2nd and 6:00 AM Wednesday, July 5th.

Pace Service

Visit pacebus.com for information on PACE service to Navy Pier, including dedicated boarding and drop off locations for guests with disabilities. Pick up for Navy Pier Pace service after the fireworks on the 4th of July will be on the north side of Navy Pier at the Pace bus stop directly behind Giordano’s Pizza.

Navy Pier Free Trolley

Trolleys will run from 10 a.m. – 1 a.m. on July 1st and from 10a.m. – 12 a.m. on July 4, 2017. The free trolley route provides convenient access to the Grand Plaza, Ogden Plaza and Millennium Lakeside alternate parking garages, as well as State Street, Michigan Avenue, the Art Institute of Chicago, and more. NOTE: Before you board a Navy Pier Free Trolley, be sure to read the signs at the front of the trolley that designate which route each trolley serves.

Independence Day Weekend Code of Conduct

In addition to the Navy Pier Code of Conduct, for the comfort and safety of all our guests, it is very important to also note and adhere to the following guidelines and policies:

YOUTH ESCORT POLICY: For the comfort and safety of all guests, Navy Pier has put in place a youth escort policy for entrance to the Pier through the duration of the day June 30-July 4: Guests 18 years and older may be asked to present a valid driver’s license, state ID or military ID upon entering all Navy Pier’s facilities or grounds. Guests to Navy Pier under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times. The parent or legal guardian is responsible for the safety and conduct of minor guests in their party.

SECUITY CHECKPOINTS: All guests must pass through a special security checkpoint before being allowed entry to Navy Pier. Multiple inspection points will be located throughout Navy Pier.

POLICY ON BAGS / BACKPACKS / ETC. PACKS ETC: Backpacks and any other larger bags of any kind are highly discouraged. ALL bags are subject to inspection.

PROHIBITED ITEMS / ACTIVITIES: Fireworks, coolers, bikes, skateboards, rollerblades and skate shoes, and weapons of any kind are not allowed on Navy Pier. As always, NO outside alcohol may be brought to Navy Pier. The preceding prohibitions are in effect year-round, including July 4th.

PETS/ANIMALS: Only official service animals are allowed on Navy Pier on the July 4th Holiday from 5 pm to 10 pm due to the significant crowds. NO pets or other animals will be permitted during that time frame. Dogs generally are welcomed outside on the Pier during business hours on all other days.

NO RE-ENTRY IF GATES ARE CLOSED: Upon closure due to crowd capacity, re-entry into Navy Pier is not permitted. If you leave Navy Pier property before the gates are closed, you are not guaranteed return access unless you have a ticket or official reservation. It is highly recommended that all parties remain together.

AREAS SURROUNDING NAVY PIER: No parking, stopping or standing along adjacent streets to Navy Pier, including, but not limited to, Streeter Drive, Grand Avenue and Illinois Street.

NO EXCEPTIONS will be made to the above guidelines and policies.
